BANGKOK, THAILAND – Independent incumbent Chadchart Sittipunt has declared a landslide victory in the Bangkok governor election.

Independent incumbent Chadchart Sittipunt has secured an overwhelming victory in the Bangkok governor election. According to unofficial results, he garnered approximately 1.444 million votes, a lead of nearly five times that of his closest rival. The capital has thus given him a clear mandate for a second term, even though official confirmation from the Election Commission is still pending.
With 89.86 percent of counted votes, Chadchart was leading with an unassailable margin on Sunday evening. His strongest competitor, Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasuk, received only 288,171 votes. The engineer and former transport minister managed to expand his vote share, which was about 51 percent in the 2022 election, to an unofficial 64 percent.
In 2022, he ran under the slogan “Bangkok, a livable city for all” and received 1,386,215 votes as an independent candidate. It now appears his policies are gaining broader approval than ever before.

said Chadchart Sittipunt.
He emphasized the associated responsibility and pledged to serve all citizens, regardless of how they voted. The governor also confirmed a congratulatory call from Chaiwat Sathawornwichit, a candidate from the People’s Party, who offered suggestions on early childhood development and flood protection. Chadchart indicated a willingness to discuss these proposals, stating, “Everyone is an ally.”

His first priority after official confirmation will be to translate over 260 campaign promises into a strategic plan. An urgent program for the first hundred days aims to tackle the city’s most pressing issues. Flood control and transportation are at the top of the agenda, as are transparency and anti-corruption measures.
The administration is under pressure to deliver substantial improvements in areas such as drainage, public transport, waste management, green spaces, health, and security. Voters will now measure him by the progress made during his first four-year term.

Chadchart Sittipunt, a trained civil engineer, first made a name for himself as a transport specialist. He served as deputy transport minister and later as transport minister under former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra before entering the race for governor as an independent.
