PETCHABURI, THAILAND – A tourist captured a rare, dramatic moment in Kaeng Krachan National Park when a large leopard sprang directly into the dense forest in front of their vehicle. The spectacular image has been published by the park chief and is now captivating social media.
The jumping photo everyone wants to see
The tourist, Nui Piwpholaphon, was traveling on the road towards Pha Noen Thung when they spotted the protected wild cat. The incident occurred on June 26, 2026, near a body of water simply referred to as “Stream 1” within the park.
The leopard appeared unbothered, showing no signs of panic. It gracefully leaped over the roadside bushes and immediately vanished into the thick green of the jungle.
Living proof of a healthy ecosystem
Park Chief Mongkol Chaiphakdee views the sighting as a strong indicator.
“The sighting of a leopard in this area is an important indicator of the rich biodiversity in the Kaeng Krachan forest,”
he stated.
Since the forest was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, wild animals have been appearing more frequently, according to Chaiphakdee. This is attributed to a healthy ecosystem with abundant food and minimal human disturbance.
What visitors need to know now
The park administration is using the significant attention to issue a crucial safety reminder. Visitors encountering a leopard or black panther must never honk, shout, or exit their vehicle.
Keeping windows closed, turning off the engine, and waiting calmly are the urgent recommendations from the rangers. The danger is considered over only when the animal moves away on its own.
The Kaeng Krachan forest is one of Thailand’s most important habitats for leopards and black panthers. Park rangers regularly document these elusive cats using automatic wildlife cameras. However, such a clear sighting remains extremely rare for visitors. Capturing a jump photo as clear as the one from Nui Piwpholaphon is considered a small treasure and has brought considerable praise to the work of park rangers across the country.
