NAN, THAILAND – A 20-year-old man and his 74-year-old grandfather have been missing for six days after going mushroom picking in a forest in Phayao province.
More than 100 rescuers are scouring the woods with sniffer dogs and drones equipped with thermal cameras. The search also covers streams, ponds and a border area with Nan province.
Over 100 rescuers comb the forest
On August 13, the search continued for Rames Chan Daeng, 20, and Nak Kham Lue, 74. Multiple units combed the forest area, sniffer dogs picked up the scent, and drones rose above the treetops to detect heat signatures.
More than 100 rescuers were deployed, split into groups.
Streams and ponds searched
Teams searched the forest areas of Chiang Muan subdistrict and the streams running through them. They also checked several water basins.
Later, the teams expanded the radius to forest and river areas in the border zone with Nan province.
District chief leads search centre
Coordination runs through a joint search centre in Chiang Muan subdistrict. Involved are district chief Pichai Khueanphet, mayor Sumethee Khamlue, and the deputy district chief.
From there, groups are assigned to individual sections.
Sixth day without a trace
The grandfather and grandson come from village number 3 in Chiang Muan subdistrict, Chiang Muan district. They set off from there to look for mushrooms in the forest.
Since then, there has been no sign of them. On August 13, authorities searched for the sixth consecutive day.
