SI SA KET, THAILAND – A van full of singers and musicians slammed into a six-wheeled crane truck on Highway 220, leaving eleven people hurt. No deaths were reported.
The crash happened on the Si Sa Ket–Khukhan road near Ban Thang Sai in Wang Hin district. Two people were in the crane truck, nine more were in the van – all ended up injured.
Both vehicles suffered heavy damage. The crane truck lay on its side at the roadside. The white Toyota van came to a stop off the road, badly banged up.
Rescuers rush to help victims
Police captain Jaruwat Niyom from Wang Hin police station got the report about the collision and drove to the scene. He was joined by ambulances from Si Sa Ket hospital and rescue teams from Sawang Jit Si Sa Ket Thammasathan and Phap Khao Si Sa Ket.
The emergency crews looked after all eleven injured. No further details about the victims’ identities are available.
Musicians headed to a concert
The van driver, aged 39, said he was travelling from Bangkok to bring singers and musicians to the ‘Thai Baan Land Camp’ concert. The event was planned for 7 and 8 August on Ko Klang Nam in Mueang district, Si Sa Ket province.
The crane truck came from Tambon Bu Sung in Wang Hin district. It had delivered steel there and was on its way back to the company when the crash happened.
Driver suspects microsleep or blackout
The van driver said he might have fallen asleep at the wheel or suffered a sudden weakness. Near the crash site, the van rammed into the rear of the crane truck before the driver lost control and left the road.
Police have not yet confirmed this as the cause of the accident. Investigators secured evidence and plan to question all those involved in detail again.
Surveillance camera captures collision
Footage from a surveillance camera shows the crash at 13.05. The crane truck was travelling in the left lane, while the van was in the right lane and drove into the rear of the crane truck.
After the impact, locals ran to the scene. Police from Wang Hin station are continuing the investigation to determine the exact sequence and cause of the crash.
