LAMPANG, THAILAND – An out-of-control 18-wheel trailer caused a seven-vehicle pile-up on Phahonyothin Road, leaving two people dead and eight injured, while a three-year-old girl barely survived.
Serious crash on Phahonyothin Road
The crash occurred on 11 April at around 2:45 p.m. on Phahonyothin Road in the northbound direction (Tak–Lampang) in Thoen district, Lampang province. The collision took place opposite the access road to Mae Wa National Park, where police and rescue units responded immediately after the alarm was raised.
Seven vehicles involved in pile-up
At the scene, where the road surface was undergoing repairs, officers counted a total of seven damaged vehicles. Among them were pick-up trucks, passenger cars and an Isuzu trailer truck registered in Saraburi, which was transporting sanitary ware.
Two dead: married couple in Honda City
According to rescue workers, two people died at the scene: the occupants of a bronze Honda City, both registered in Bangkok and initially reported to be a married couple. They had been travelling with their three-year-old daughter, who narrowly survived and was rushed to hospital by emergency crews.
Eight injured and major rescue response
In total, eight people were injured, and several rescue units took part in treatment and recovery operations. The injured were transported to hospitals in Thoen, Mae Phrik and Sop Prap districts.
Driver reports brake failure – investigation ongoing
Police questioned the 40-year-old truck driver from Phitsanulok province, who had been behind the wheel of the trailer. He stated that he had braked in the construction zone but was unable to stop in time and first crashed into the family’s car ahead, triggering further rear-end collisions.
“The exact cause is still under investigation.”
said police investigators, who were examining the circumstances of the crash in the construction area.
