Tourists caught urinating in sea

Public urination sparks fury

A shocking scene unfolded on Friday night at Pattaya Beach when two intoxicated foreign tourists decided to relieve themselves directly into the sea. The incident happened around 10:00 pm near Pattaya Soi 6, in full view of passersby.
Locals quickly confronted the pair, demanding they stop. Instead of showing remorse, the tourists reacted with defiance—mocking the residents and raising their middle fingers. “I have never seen such disrespect in my life,” said 47-year-old resident Roongarun Jaemad, still shaken by the display.

Police step in after failed escape

Realising the situation was escalating, the tourists attempted to flee. But local residents blocked their path and held them until authorities arrived. Police officers soon placed the men under arrest, charging them with public urination and issuing fines.
Officials did not disclose the exact amount of the fine, nor the nationality of the offenders. After paying, the men were released—no doubt carrying a heavy dose of embarrassment along with their penalty.

Calls for better facilities

Behind the anger lies a deeper problem: Pattaya’s chronic shortage of public toilets. Locals have long criticised the lack of facilities along the beachfront. “We need more toilets and clearer signs,” Roongarun urged after the incident.
Currently, the nearest public toilets are often far away, leaving some tourists to use that as an excuse for indecent behaviour. But residents are adamant: “There is no justification for urinating in the sea and then insulting the people who live here.”

Pattaya’s image at risk

This is far from the first time drunken tourists have caused chaos in Pattaya, but locals say the disrespect shown this time crossed a new line. The behaviour, they warn, tarnishes the reputation of the city.
“It damages the image of Pattaya,” said one resident. “We just want peaceful tourists who know how to behave.” For now, Pattaya is left to grapple not only with its unruly visitors but also with the urgent need to improve basic infrastructure before the next scandal erupts.
