Tour Boat Capsizes Off Phuket, No Injuries

Seven passengers safely evacuated after incident near Coral Island and Banana Beach

PHUKET, THAILAND – A tour boat capsized between Coral Island and Banana Beach, but all seven passengers were brought to safety without injury.

Emergency call from busy excursion area

The Emergency Medical Call Center (1669) reported that it received a call at 10:28 a.m. from residents near Banana Beach in southern Phuket about a capsized boat between the two islands. The details from the callers immediately indicated an acute emergency in the heavily frequented excursion zone.

Coordinated sea and land response

The rescue center of Phuket province, operated by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), promptly dispatched a patrol boat to the scene. Authorities in the region relied on a coordinated network of medical dispatch, sea rescue, and land-based teams to reach incidents on the water quickly.

Passengers evacuated without injuries

According to the rescue teams, all seven passengers on board the capsized vessel were safely evacuated from Coral Island and taken without injuries to Chalong Bay. Chalong Bay in southeastern Phuket served as a key departure and return point for excursion boats to nearby islands, which facilitated the swift transport of those rescued.

Boat owner’s role and favorable conditions

Officials expressed special thanks to the owner of the Banana Beach tour boat, who provided crucial first assistance even before the PPAO patrol boat arrived and thus accelerated the rescue effort. Due to this early support, the rapid coordination of responders, and favorable sea conditions, no injuries or fatalities were recorded, the rescue center reported.

Debate over water excursion safety

The incident highlighted that a capsized boat could quickly have turned into a disaster in the popular tourist area. Only through fast help and effective cooperation did everyone remain unharmed, prompting questions in local discussion over whether existing safety standards for tour boats should be tightened further or whether the response to this case showed that the rescue system functioned as intended.
