Surachate ‘Big Joke’ Hakparn files explosive abuse complaint against Thailand’s police chief
Thailand’s police force is thrown into chaos as former deputy chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn lodges an official complaint against current police chief Kittharath Punpetch, alleging abuse of power and deliberate defamation.
Power struggle erupts at the top of Thailand’s police
On Tuesday, Surachate Hakparn submits his complaint to the House Committee for National Strategy and Reform. Committee chairman Rangsiman Rome receives the document, promising a thorough investigation.
At the heart of the accusation, Surachate claims Kittharath unlawfully initiated disciplinary action against him in April. The move is linked to a controversial law exam scandal at Chulalongkorn University.
Surachate insists the investigation wrongly named him as a suspect in a criminal case, despite Kittharath knowing he was never charged. “This was an attempt to block my possible return to the police,” Surachate says.
Although the error is later corrected, Surachate maintains the damage to his reputation is done. He has already filed two defamation lawsuits against Kittharath and plans to take the case to the Corruption and Misconduct Court.
The law exam scandal that sparked the feud
The controversy dates back to March 2025, when cyber police arrested members of the Betflik online gambling network. During the probe, messages surfaced about the removal of law exam materials from Chulalongkorn University’s evening programme.
Kanittha Lertbanjerdwong, known as “Dr. Nid,” emerges as a key figure. She claims to be Surachate’s personal secretary. Evidence suggests she supplied stolen exam papers to Surachate’s legal team.
Committee vows transparency as tensions rise
Committee head Rangsiman pledges, “The panel will review the complaint and all evidence to ensure transparency and fairness.” He hints that police chief Kittharath may be summoned for questioning.
This high-stakes battle exposes deep divisions within Thailand’s police leadership. The ongoing feud between the two generals could trigger further revelations—and shake public trust in law enforcement.
Public trust at stake amid Thailand police scandal
The Big Joke abuse claims now dominate headlines, raising questions about the integrity of Thailand’s police. As the investigation unfolds, many wonder if the force can recover from such a dramatic rift.
