BANGKOK, THAILAND – The Thai Immigration Bureau has launched a new mobile application designed to simplify the arrival process for foreign travelers.
The THIM (Thailand Immigration Management) app has been released for both iOS and Android platforms. It allows foreign nationals to digitally complete their Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) and register their stay. The initiative aims to expedite the entry process for tourists and visa holders, while simultaneously improving the monitoring of foreigners for enhanced national security.
What the innovation concretely brings
The application is currently in a testing phase, with plans to gradually introduce additional functionalities. The primary objective is to make immigration procedures quicker and more convenient without compromising the oversight of authorities. The bureau indicated that the app is intended to reduce congestion at airports and facilitate more comfortable interactions with immigration officers.
This platform links the initial registration with the TDAC system. Over time, more systems are expected to be integrated. The official full launch is scheduled for August 2026.
Who the app affects
The app is designated for foreign citizens of all visa types, encompassing short-term tourists, long-term residents, and individuals residing in Thailand. Travelers are encouraged to input their data via the app, opting for a more efficient method than the current website.
Police Lieutenant General Panumas Boonyalug and Police Major General Pratchaya Prasansuk have been appointed to lead the development of the THIM app. The Immigration Bureau has identified them as the responsible points of contact for this project.
How THIM works
The THIM app enables users to photograph their passports for automatic data extraction, directly transferring passport details into the system. Users are also required to provide their accommodation details, travel itinerary, and any relevant reasons that will be used for entry permit assessment.
All collected information is stored in an immigration information system developed in collaboration with a globally reputable private company, whose name was not disclosed. Personal data is managed to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance security protocols.
Speed, group processing, and languages
Authorities stated that the average time for individual data entry is expected to be no longer than three minutes. For group travel, the app supports the simultaneous entry of up to ten individuals, significantly accelerating the processing for families or tour groups.
At its launch, THIM supports four languages: English, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese. Developers are planning to expand the language support to include at least 15 additional languages in the near future.
Expansion into a super-app and support services
In the long term, THIM is envisioned to evolve into a comprehensive one-stop super-app. This future iteration will allow foreigners to submit documents, verify identities, and schedule appointments with officials without the need for in-person visits. Officials will also be able to review applications directly through the app interface.
Registered users will have 24/7 access to the Tourist Police hotline via the app, providing a channel to request assistance in emergencies. This feature aims to enhance safety and support for foreigners in Thailand.
Test phase, timeline, and official evaluation
The app is currently available for test usage. Initially, it connects registration with the TDAC system, with further system integrations to follow. The full official rollout is anticipated in August 2026, marking a significant step in Thailand’s digital immigration strategy.
