BANGKOK, Thailand – Tourist-focused travel costs are on the rise as Thailand has increased passenger fees at six international airports.
International departure fees have now climbed to 1,120 Baht, a significant jump of 390 Baht from the previous rate of 730 Baht.
This new passenger service charge applies to all individuals departing for international destinations. The change took effect on June 20 and impacts passengers flying from the country’s six major airports.
These six airports are affected
The increased fee is being implemented at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Bangkok, as well as airports in Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Hat Yai. These locations represent the country’s primary international hubs.
However, travelers departing from smaller airports will continue to pay the former rate. The majority of international travelers utilize the services of these six key airports.
Domestic flights remain untouched
For those traveling within Thailand, there is good news: the passenger fee for domestic flights remains unchanged at 130 Baht per person. This fee increase exclusively targets international departures.
Whether traveling from Bangkok to Phuket or Chiang Mai, those remaining within the country will not face additional charges.
No extra amount at the airport
The passenger service fee is already incorporated into the ticket price. Travelers will not be required to pay any additional sum at check-in or the gate.
This prepayment aims to prevent tourists from being caught off guard upon arrival. The additional cost is reflected directly in the airfare.
What travelers need to know now
The new regulations are now in effect. Anyone booking an international flight from this point forward must account for the higher rate, and ticket prices will adjust accordingly.
