PHUKET, Thailand – A foreign woman caused significant disruption on a busy Phuket intersection, blocking traffic for over 20 minutes before evading police.
SUV blocks complete intersection
The incident occurred on June 21st at approximately 7:10 PM at the Phuket Yacht Haven junction on Thep Kasattri Road in the Thalang district. A grey SUV came to a standstill in the middle lane, obstructing other motorists.
A Thai driver, returning home, noticed the stationary vehicle and grew concerned. He parked nearby and approached the car to check on the driver.
Driver unresponsive – Police called
Behind the wheel was a foreign woman engrossed in her mobile phone. She appeared unresponsive and showed little reaction when the man attempted to ascertain her situation. Alarmed, he contacted the Tha Chatchai Police Station.
Upon the arrival of officers, the woman refused to exit the vehicle. A police officer utilized a translation app on his phone to communicate with her. The driver responded solely by typing short messages on her phone.
Sudden escape before police eyes
Despite the ongoing interaction and appeals from the officers, the unexpected happened. The woman started the engine and sped away from the scene during the police engagement. Officers were unable to apprehend her.
A video of the entire event later surfaced on the Facebook group “Khap Rot Baep Nee Tong Prachan Phuket” (translated: “Drivers like this deserve to be exposed”). The post described the action with the words: “A Kazakh woman parked her car in the middle of the road for over 20 minutes. The police came to talk, but she sped off from the scene.”
SUV previously drove in circles
Following the incident, several social media users reported observing the same vehicle earlier in the day. Around 5:20 PM, the grey SUV was reportedly seen driving in circles multiple times near the Ban Mud Dok Khao intersection on the same road.
This peculiar behavior has intensified investigators’ suspicions that the driver may pose a danger to herself and others. The police have not officially confirmed the woman’s nationality.
Search for the unknown woman is underway
The police are now working to identify the driver and locate her whereabouts. She is expected to be summoned for questioning and will face potential legal consequences. Specific offenses are currently being examined.
To date, the woman has neither been apprehended nor officially identified. Officers are appealing to any witnesses who may have information about the vehicle or the driver to contact the Tha Chatchai Police Station immediately.
