BANGKOK, THAILAND – Police arrested a Cambodian man in a Bangkok apartment where officers found a gun, an improvised bomb and materials for further weapons allegedly prepared for a revenge attack.
Targeted evening raid in Khlong Sam Wa
In the evening, officers from the Bang Chan police station carried out a raid on a rented apartment in the Khlong Sam Wa district. The operation had been ordered from the highest level, with Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, commander of the Metropolitan Police, personally leading the investigators. At a building in Soi Suan Laem Khlong Nueng 11, they encountered 38-year-old Koemeang Moeun, a Cambodian national.
Apartment turned into makeshift weapons workshop
During the search, officers made what they described as a shocking discovery, securing a homemade firearm. They also found an improvised explosive device wrapped in black electrical tape and a large quantity of fireworks, apparently intended for constructing additional weapons. Materials for Molotov cocktails were also discovered, effectively turning the apartment into a small weapons workshop.
Revenge motive after knife attack
According to police, there had been indications that the man was stockpiling weapons and planning an act of revenge. During interrogation, the detainee confessed to the allegations. He admitted to having been involved in a dispute with rivals, during which he was pursued and attacked with a weapon.
Out of fear of further confrontations and driven by a desire for revenge, he had obtained and prepared the weapons in order to strike back. The case illustrated how a knife altercation in the city had almost escalated into a planned attack involving explosives.
Serious charges over weapons and explosives
The Cambodian national now faced multiple criminal charges, led by illegal possession of weapons. He was also accused of possessing explosives that could not be licensed and of holding untaxed goods. The suspect was taken to Bang Chan police station, where formal investigations and court proceedings were initiated.
Police say deadly incident was averted
Police leadership expressed relief at the successful operation, saying a potentially deadly incident had been prevented.
“The swift arrest ensured the safety of local residents.”
said a police spokesman, adding that the use of such weapons in a residential area would have been catastrophic. The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to the fight against illegal weapons in Bangkok’s communities.

The case showed how quickly personal conflicts in a large city could escalate. What began as a knife fight had nearly turned into a bomb attack plan. Police stated they remained on high alert to detect and defuse similar threats in time, pointing to the dangerous mix of easy access to materials for pipe bombs and a readiness to use violence.
