PATTAYA, THAILAND – A Dutch tourist in her 60s was resuscitated on Jomtien Beach after nearly drowning due to cramps in the sea.
Tourist collapsed on busy Jomtien shoreline
Emergency teams from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescue organization were called around 1 p.m. on 28 December 2025 to the beach area behind the police post at the Koeng Dongtan section in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. Numerous local residents and foreign holidaymakers had gathered around the woman, who lay unconscious in the sand, unresponsive and with no measurable pulse.
Lifeguards deliver prolonged CPR
Lifeguards on Jomtien Beach immediately began CPR and carried out continuous chest compressions over an extended period, while onlookers watched in visible tension. Eventually, the woman’s pulse returned, and she was taken to Pattaya City Hospital for emergency treatment.
Cramp in the water triggered near drowning
Lifeguard Thongchai Thiengcharoen said the tourist had been swimming in the sea off the Koeng Dongtan section when she suddenly suffered cramps and went under.
“Fortunately, courageous people on the beach pulled her ashore in time,”
said Thongchai, lifeguard.
Thongchai reported that he could not detect any pulse on arrival.
“I immediately started chest compressions and at the same time requested an Advanced Life Support (ALS) team from Pattaya City Hospital to the beach,”
said Thongchai, lifeguard. After initial treatment on site, the ALS team took over and transported the woman to the clinic.
Pattaya authorities highlight sea safety efforts
Pattaya’s city administration had long emphasized the importance of safety in coastal and bathing operations. Regular training sessions in first aid and rescue of drowning persons were held not only for municipal staff and lifeguards, but also for residents of surrounding communities.
Officials said these measures were intended to increase survival chances for victims in emergency situations. For those responsible, the incident was seen as an example of how expertise and swift action could save the lives of beachgoers.

Helpers used the case to highlight typical risks when swimming in the sea, stressing that muscle cramps in the water could quickly become life-threatening. They pointed out that rapid alerting of lifeguards and rescue services was crucial, and that basic knowledge of CPR significantly improved chances of survival in the first minutes.
