Pattaya locals stop ex-boyfriend robbery

Police praised residents who chased and detained a foreign man after he allegedly attacked his Thai ex-partner

PATTAYA, THAILAND – A late-night confrontation between a Thai woman and her former boyfriend ended in swift justice when bystanders chased down and detained the man after he allegedly snatched her purse.

Locals act fast during early morning incident

Police from the Pattaya City Police Station responded to the scene on Soi Pattaya Tai 24 at around 00:10 a.m. on October 27th, 2025, after residents reported holding a suspect moments after the attack. Officers arrived to find several locals restraining a 27-year-old Indian national who was reportedly resisting arrest.

Authorities confirmed that the man was taken into custody on site and transported to the police station for questioning. Officers noted that he refused to identify himself and declined to communicate with both investigators and reporters.

Victim recounts moment of fear

The victim, Ms. Rungnapa Nakngoen, aged 35, told local media she had been in a relationship with the suspect for approximately three months. After ending the relationship, she said, the man continued to contact her repeatedly despite her blocking his phone number and social media accounts. According to Ms. Rungnapa, he went as far as creating new online profiles in an attempt to reach her.

The situation came to a head when he appeared outside an apartment near the incident site, pleading for reconciliation. When she refused, he allegedly grabbed her shoulder bag and ran. Her cries for help drew the attention of nearby residents, who quickly pursued and overpowered the man.

Community response and police investigation

Police credited bystanders for their quick action, which likely prevented the suspect’s escape. The man initially denied involvement and has been held pending further inquiry. Investigators said Ms. Rungnapa plans to file a formal complaint to proceed with legal charges.

Authorities emphasize public readiness

The Chonburi provincial police have commended citizens who come forward to assist in emergency situations but continue to urge caution. Officers reminded the public to alert authorities promptly in similar cases rather than risking personal harm.
