Pattaya, Thailand – A night out at a busy beach bar ended in a dramatic rescue after a 35-year-old Thai woman reportedly wounded herself during a heated argument with her foreign boyfriend, police and witnesses said.
Night at a popular bar
The incident unfolded shortly after 1:30 a.m. at a bar on Soi Pattaya Beach 13/2, a venue frequented by locals and international visitors. According to CCTV footage later released to investigators, the couple argued repeatedly at the bar before the man moved to a different table and the woman remained alone at the counter.
Witnesses identified the woman as Natty, 35. One regular, Woonsen, 24, said the pair had been in loud disputes several times that evening and that other guests watched with growing concern as their exchange intensified.
Witness accounts of a sudden escalation
Several patrons described tense moments after the boyfriend left the counter. A foreign guest who overheard the argument told police he stepped in briefly to try to calm Natty. “I wanted only to help, she was very upset,” he said, according to a police summary of statements.
After returning to his own seat, the witness said he saw Natty continue to drink and remain visibly distressed. CCTV and witness testimony later indicated that she unexpectedly took out a small folding knife and inflicted a wound to her neck.
Bar staff reacted with shock. “We didn’t know what to do, everything happened so quickly,” an employee said, describing how staff and customers froze before some rushed to assist. According to witnesses, Natty declined offers of help from those who approached her.
Emergency services and hospital transfer
Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Dhammastan Foundation arrived within minutes of the emergency call. They found Natty seriously injured, administered first aid at the scene and stabilised her for transfer to a nearby hospital. Officials have not released details about her current medical condition.
Police secured the scene, collected evidence and began interviewing witnesses. The bar was temporarily closed and guests were asked to leave the premises. Investigators also arranged psychological support for patrons who witnessed the event.
Investigation underway
Authorities said they were reviewing CCTV footage and statements from several people who were present. The foreign boyfriend was among those questioned but, according to police, he declined to comment on the specifics of the dispute. Investigators were working to reconstruct the sequence of events and to determine a motive.
A police spokesperson urged anyone with information to come forward, saying, “Every observation can help to clarify what happened.” So far, officials have reported no evidence of third-party involvement.

The case drew attention in Pattaya and beyond because it echoed a recent, fatal incident in Ayutthaya in which a Thai woman died after self-inflicting injuries following an argument with her partner. Police cautioned against drawing direct parallels, saying each incident must be examined on its own facts.
Bar owners said they were shaken by the event and pledged to increase attention to guest welfare. “We are saddened and want to do more to protect our customers,” one manager told reporters.
Police appeal and next steps
Investigators continued to analyse video material and were taking further witness statements. The police asked anyone who saw the argument or who has additional footage from the evening to contact them, reiterating that even small details might help the inquiry.
Officials said the bar would remain closed while investigators completed their on-site work. Medical staff at the hospital and police had not provided an updated public statement on Natty’s condition at the time of reporting, and the foreign man involved had not issued a public comment.
