UBON RATCHATHANI, Thailand – A 23-year-old Laotian national was arrested on June 5, 2026, in Ubon Ratchathani for allegedly overstaying his visa by 2,256 days. The Immigration Bureau handed the man over to the police for legal proceedings, after which he faces deportation and a ten-year entry ban.
Arrest after more than six years overstay
Immigration officials apprehended the 23-year-old, identified as Khamphouan, during a routine check in Ubon Ratchathani. Authorities discovered that his permitted stay had been exceeded by 2,256 days, equating to approximately six years and two months. Reports also described the man as a ‘ladyboy,’ but no indication was given that this was relevant to the proceedings. The overstay figures were derived from a comparison of his passport and the immigration database.
Large-scale operation under high leadership
The operation was part of an intensified enforcement campaign led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Pairat Phukcharoen, Commander of Immigration Division 4, and Pol. Col. Samran Klanma of Ubon Ratchathani Immigration. Pol. Lt. Col. Nopparat Yangdamrong served as deputy lead for the local units. According to officials, investigation teams were instructed to search high-risk locations within the province to prevent violations of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979) and other offenses affecting national security.
On-site operation led and supported
The searches and the arrest were conducted on-site by Pol. Lt. Col. Ying Wasana Thepprasit and supported by an investigation team under Pol. Capt. Pricha Praking. Officers gathered information and checked documents directly at the scene of the operation. The control at the site aimed for the rapid identification of individuals with expired residency permits and the securing of relevant evidence for further proceedings.
Handover to police and further steps
After determining the overstay, immigration officials transferred the suspect, along with supporting documentation, to the Chong Mek Police Station in Sirindhorn District to initiate legal action. Investigators there are continuing to examine the allegations. Authorities stated that following the police proceedings, a repatriation to the immigration bureau for deportation would occur.
Deportation planned and entry ban
According to officials, the man’s name will be entered into the Immigration Bureau’s blacklist system, resulting in a ten-year entry ban for Thailand. The deportation is scheduled to be implemented after the legal process concludes. The blacklist entry is intended to prevent the individual’s entry into Thailand for a period of ten years, thereby ensuring compliance with immigration laws.
