KOH SAMUI, THAILAND – The dream island in the Gulf of Thailand has been crowned number one in the Asia-Pacific region.
Koh Samui has been recognized as the best island at the prestigious “Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards 2026.” The island’s airport and five luxury resorts also secured top rankings in their respective categories, highlighting the destination’s overall excellence.
The Coveted Crown as Best Island
Readers of the international travel magazine “Travel + Leisure” have cast their votes. Koh Samui secured the first place in the coveted “Best Islands” category for the entire Asia-Pacific region. This award underscores the island’s enduring appeal to discerning travelers.
For the government in Bangkok, this serves as a clear confirmation of their strategic direction. Ploythale Laksameesangchan, the deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister, lauded the efficient management practices implemented on the island. These efforts have evidently paid off.

In addition to its title as the best island, the Samui International Airport also achieved significant recognition. It landed an impressive second place in the “Best Airports” category. Only the highly acclaimed Changi Airport in Singapore ranked higher than Koh Samui’s airport.
The jury was particularly impressed by the airport’s harmonious design, which blends seamlessly with the tropical surroundings. The smooth passenger processing also contributed to its high rating, showcasing operational excellence.
Five Dream Resorts Among the Top Ten
The island’s luxury hotels experienced a remarkable success. In the highly competitive “Best Beach and Island Resorts in Thailand” category, no fewer than five establishments from Koh Samui made it into the top 10. The Cape Fahn Hotel claimed the top spot for the island at second place.
Directly following are the Four Seasons Resort at fifth place, the Kimpton Kitalay Samui at seventh, the Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort at eighth, and the Centara Reserve Samui at ninth place. This widespread acclaim highlights the exceptional quality of hospitality available on Koh Samui.
Bangkok Aims to Score with Sustainability
The Thai government now plans to strategically enhance island tourism. Future plans are focused on improving the distribution of income within local communities and further increasing traveler safety.
