BANGKOK, Thailand – A 43-year-old Japanese tourist, Yuki Kanehara, was attacked by a group of youths near the Airport Rail Link station Makkasan. Police arrested all seven suspects. The victim intends to pursue the case.
The attack happened on Soi Asok-Din Daeng, where the group was riding motorcycles. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the motive was robbery.
Police have identified and arrested all seven suspects. Those arrested are juveniles.
Japanese interpreters support the tourist
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul ordered tourist police to assist and support the Japanese man on August 14, 2569.
The ministry sent a team of Japanese interpreters to Makkasan police station. The interpreters are helping the man with interviews and the complaint, and coordinating the process.
Tourist got lost and stumbled into the attack zone
The 43-year-old had lost his way and wandered into the area where the crime later occurred. There he encountered the group.
The tourist was injured. While fleeing, his personal belongings fell to the ground.
Victim vows to see the case through to the end
The Japanese man said he wants to take legal action against those responsible. Support from the authorities is meant to make the next steps easier.
The safety of foreign visitors is a priority for my ministry. We will not remain idle against actions that damage Thailand’s reputation.
