The deadly impact
A late-night drive ended in tragedy when a 52-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his Honda Click was struck by a speeding Mercedes-Benz in Pathum Thani. The crash happened in the early hours of 15 September, leaving bystanders shocked and police scrambling for answers.
A risky overtake turns fatal
The collision unfolded around 3am on Erawan 1 Road in Khlong Luang. A pickup driver who witnessed the smash told police: “I was following the motorbike as it turned onto a bridge. Suddenly, the Mercedes overtook me at high speed and ploughed straight into it.”
The impact was devastating. The rider, Mr Sunan, died instantly. His shattered Honda lay strewn across the tarmac while the Mercedes, its front only lightly damaged and with a broken wing mirror, came to a halt about ten metres away.
Victim and driver: two worlds collide
The victim, 52-year-old Mr Sunan from Khlong Song, Khlong Luang, may have been commuting when the crash occurred. The driver, 19-year-old Mr Phanuwich, admitted he was taking his girlfriend home in Khlong Five. “I was overtaking when the accident happened,” he told officers.
Police escorted the teenager to Khlong Luang station for questioning and ordered tests. Meanwhile, rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation transported Mr Sunan’s body to Thammasat University Hospital for an autopsy.
Police investigation under way
Investigators collected evidence and vowed to examine CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact sequence of events. Authorities confirmed they are considering charges of reckless driving causing death – or even manslaughter – depending on the outcome.
