Powerbank bursts into flames on Bangkok MRT train

Passengers evacuated at Itsaraphap station after battery pack catches fire in bag

BANGKOK, Thailand – A powerbank burst into flames inside an MRT train at Itsaraphap station on August 4. Staff evacuated passengers and brought the blaze under control.

The portable charger overheated in a passenger’s bag, igniting the fire. Crews acted fast to contain it. No damage to the train was found.

Powerbank heats up inside passenger’s bag

According to BEM (Bangkok Expressway and Metro), the passenger’s powerbank got hot and caught fire inside a travel bag. The incident happened aboard an MRT train at Itsaraphap station.

Staff stepped in and brought the situation under control. Affected passengers were ordered to leave the train.

Crew evacuated passengers from the affected carriage immediately.

An initial inspection found no damage to the train.

MRT resumes normal service

MRT operations continued as usual after the incident. BEM said the situation was under control.
