BANGLAMUNG, THAILAND – A solemn royal merit-making ceremony at Wat Chaimongkol in Chonburi Province brought together local leaders, monks, and residents on October 27, 2025, to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
Royal Tribute in Chonburi
The event was presided over by Governor Narit Niramaiwong, representing the Chonburi provincial administration. The monastic leadership was headed by Venerable Phra Thep Wachirapanyaporn (Anan Dhammachoto), the Deputy Chief Monk of Chonburi and Abbot of Wat Chaimongkol. Their presence underlined the joint participation of the state and religious institutions in expressing gratitude for the Queen Mother’s lifelong service to the Thai nation.
Community Leaders and Residents Attend
Senior officials joining the ceremony included Mr. Patcharaphat Srithanyanon, Banglamung District Chief; Mr. Poramese Ngampichet, Mayor of Pattaya City; and Mrs. Supinya Niramaiwong, President of the Chonburi Red Cross. Also in attendance were members of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization, Pattaya City Council, and various governmental representatives. Many local residents came to pay their respects, highlighting the depth of public affection for the monarchy.
Traditional Buddhist Rites
In accordance with Buddhist tradition, Governor Narit lit candles and incense before the Triple Gem, then laid floral tributes before a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Monks chanted the royal funeral rites, an ancient practice reserved for occasions of high national reverence. The ceremony continued with the offering of monastic robes and essential items to four monks, a gesture symbolizing the accumulation of merit for the Queen Mother’s honor.
Offering Merit and Final Blessings
Following the chanting, the governor led the congregation in pouring ceremonial water, a custom believed to transfer accumulated merit to the person being venerated. Participants then received blessings from the monastic assembly. The ceremony concluded with final respects to the Triple Gem and another bow before the Queen Mother’s portrait. Attendees expressed deep gratitude for her lifetime of compassion, service, and dedication to the welfare of the Thai people.

Queen Sirikit, revered nationwide, remains a symbol of motherly devotion and social commitment. While the atmosphere at Wat Chaimongkol was deeply reflective, it also stood as a reminder of how regional communities across Thailand continue to maintain and renew ties between the monarchy, religion, and civic life through ritual and prayer.
