Chinese tourist critically hurt in Pattaya fall

Police probed circumstances after man plunged from fourth floor of city hotel

PATTAYA, THAILAND – An unidentified Chinese man was left in critical condition after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in Pattaya, prompting an ongoing police investigation.

Late-night emergency call

Police said they received a report at around 11:10 p.m. on 9 January 2026 that a foreign man had fallen from a significant height at a hotel in Soi Kopai 4 in southern Pattaya. Officers from the Pattaya City Police Station coordinated with rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation and medical staff from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, who arrived shortly after and began emergency treatment at the scene.

Victim found in hotel parking area

Rescuers found the man on the ground floor in the hotel’s parking area, near a storage space for equipment and paint buckets. According to emergency personnel, the Chinese national was in critical condition, breathing weakly and suffering fractures to both legs as well as severe back injuries.

He carried no identification documents, leaving his identity unclear. First responders provided initial treatment on site before rushing him to a nearby hospital for urgent care.

Police trace fall to fire escape

Initial police findings indicated the man had apparently fallen from the fire escape on the fourth floor of the seven-storey hotel. It remained unknown whether he had been alone at the time, and hotel staff declined to comment to the media, according to reports.

Officers cordoned off the area and collected evidence, working to reconstruct the sequence of events before the fall. Investigators sought to determine whether there had been any outside involvement or if the incident was an accident.

Street vendor heard heavy impact

A key witness was 43-year-old street vendor Arunakamon Raseeta, who runs a Som Tam stall directly in front of the hotel. She told reporters she had heard a loud impact during the night, which she initially believed was a falling paint bucket.

“Shortly afterwards, hotel staff ran over there and alerted the rescuers,”

said Arunakamon Raseeta, street vendor.

She said it only became clear later that the sound had been caused by a person hitting the ground.

Roommates questioned by investigators

According to police, the severely injured man had been sharing his room at the hotel with three Chinese acquaintances. These men were being extensively questioned by investigators.

Authorities stated they were examining whether the fall was an accident or whether other factors might have played a role. No final assessment had yet been made, and the cause of the incident remained open.

Ongoing investigation at Pattaya hotel

Police announced they would continue their investigation at the hotel in Pattaya. Officers said they were reviewing all relevant witness statements and physical evidence to clarify what led to the man’s life-threatening fall.
