PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 31-year-old Brazilian tourist allegedly attacked a police officer during a routine traffic stop in the early hours of Oct. 13, striking him in the face, spitting on him and kicking out as she was detained.
Traffic stop on Pattaya Second Road
At about 2:06 a.m., Vice-Inspector Siwakorn Somsura of the Pattaya City Police Station observed a foreign motorcyclist riding the wrong way along Pattaya Second Road toward Beach Road without wearing a helmet. He stopped the rider to point out the traffic violations and to issue a warning in line with Thai traffic law. What began as a routine check quickly escalated.
According to the police report, the woman — identified only as Miss Silva — became increasingly agitated and uncooperative when informed about the violations and the potential fine. Vice-Inspector Siwakorn told reporters, “When I tried to issue a warning, she became angry and attacked me.”
Arrest and charges
Officers say Silva struck the vice-inspector in the face, spat at him and kicked out. Even after being placed in handcuffs, the assaults continued: she reportedly kicked the officer in the buttocks and spat again. “We had to call for backup to detain her,” the vice-inspector said, describing the need for additional officers to secure the scene.
Silva was taken into custody at Pattaya City Police Station and faces multiple charges, including assaulting an on-duty police officer, resisting law enforcement, and violations of the traffic act (riding against traffic and not wearing a helmet). She is expected to be brought before a court in the coming days; on conviction she faces substantial fines and possibly imprisonment.
