BANGKOK, THAILAND – Bangkok has climbed ten places to rank 22nd in the 2026 ‘World’s Best Cities’ list compiled by Resonance Consultancy, signalling steady recovery and renewed global recognition.
Analysts from Resonance Consultancy released the annual report comparing international cities based on data and surveys from over 21,000 respondents. London maintained its top position, followed by New York in second and Paris in third. Bangkok’s leap from 32nd to 22nd marked one of the most significant year-on-year improvements in the global ranking.
London retains the global lead

The same report listed Tokyo, Singapore, and Dubai among the top ten. The ranking, which measures life quality, popularity, and prosperity, placed Bangkok among the fastest advancing Asian cities in 2026.
Bangkok’s strong performance
Resonance attributed the city’s progress to tangible factors combining economic and cultural momentum.

According to the report, Bangkok demonstrated measurable post-pandemic recovery, with tourism and services rebounding sharply. Analysts forecasted an estimated 50 percent increase in visitor numbers within five years, underscoring the capital’s potential.
Challenges still to overcome
Despite the gains, the report included clear warnings that Bangkok must address structural issues to reach the Top 20 bracket. Experts identified three key problem areas requiring measurable progress:
• Public transport expansion to manage congestion.
• Air quality improvement through stricter environmental control.
• Digital infrastructure modernization for sustainable growth.
Evaluation and new criteria
Resonance measured each city with a ‘Place Power Score’ across three benchmarks: Quality of Life (infrastructure, parks, air), Lovability (culture, nightlife, image), and Prosperity (jobs, education, economy). For 2026, the consultancy added new factors such as climate resilience and global perception, reflecting intensifying competition among world cities.
Outlook
Analysts from The Nation in Bangkok confirmed that the capital’s inclusion among the world’s top 25 cities represented both recognition and responsibility. For Thailand’s tourism and service industries, the report served as an indicator of renewed international confidence while showing that strategic policy could push Bangkok closer to world-class status.
