BANGKOK, Thailand – A Japanese tourist was attacked by six youths on motorbikes after taking a wrong turn into a park behind Makkasan station.
The man set out for the Airport Rail Link station on the evening of August 12 around 8pm. Instead of reaching the station, he ended up in the park behind it, near Soi Asok-Din Daeng 30 and 32.
As he tried to leave the park, six teenagers on two motorbikes rode up to him. The gang demanded cash. The tourist said he had none – and a fight broke out.
Victim flees without shoes and credit card
The Japanese man ran to the junction of Soi Asok-Din Daeng 30. He still had his backpack. Only then did he realise he had lost a pair of shoes and a credit card.
According to initial reports, both items may have been dropped during his escape. He was treated at a hospital afterwards.
Top police brass inspect the crime scene
The next morning, the Metropolitan Police Chief led a team of investigators to the park. They examined the scene, the surroundings, and any available evidence.
Also on site were the head of the investigation division, the chief of Police Division 1, several deputy chiefs, and the head of Makkasan Police Station. Officers are now collecting information to identify and prosecute the suspects.
Grab drivers report victim seeking help
A post in the Facebook group “Grab Car Driver club Thailand” matches the case. It said the Japanese man had sought help in the Makkasan park area after the attack.
The victim received medical treatment at a hospital, according to the same source.
