PATTAYA, THAILAND – Two social media videos appeared to show an alleged assault on an older European tourist on Walking Street as police reported they had received no formal complaint and urged those involved to come forward.
Videos circulated on social media from 17 April
Two video clips had been circulating in Pattaya social networks since 17 April 2026. The footage was posted in the public Facebook group “Pattaya Talk” and triggered numerous reactions and comments.
According to the accompanying post, the clips lasted 27 seconds and 15 seconds. They were said to depict an incident during the Songkran festivities on Walking Street and spread widely within a short time.
Context: water games and an escalating dispute
According to the Facebook user who shared the videos, the conflict began with a dispute over water play during the Songkran celebrations. The post stressed that the area in question was not a dry zone at the time and that all those involved were already wet.
The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, which was captured in the clips. The person who recorded the footage was not reachable for questions at the time of reporting, so additional details on the exact sequence of events were unavailable.
Three suspects and one assaulted tourist
The videos were said to show three younger men, described in the post as individuals with “Middle Eastern” features. The alleged victim was estimated to be an older European tourist, whose age was put at around 50 to 60 years.
It was not confirmed whether the tourist was injured in the incident or required medical attention. No verified information on this point was available, and bystanders – including both Thai nationals and foreign tourists – were reported to have tried to intervene.
On-site research without result
A reporter from The Pattaya News visited the relevant section of Walking Street in South Pattaya. Neither the people involved nor witnesses who could have assisted with identification were found at the scene.
Employees of nearby venues and motorcycle taxi drivers in the area did not comment on the incident. No one was willing to provide statements or share further details.
Police await formal complaint
Police in Pattaya stated that they had not yet received any official complaint regarding the case. Without such a report, formal investigations could not be initiated under Thai law.
Officers publicly appealed to the alleged victim and to witnesses to come forward and file official police reports. Only on that basis could an investigative procedure be opened and potential suspects identified.
Safety on Walking Street during Songkran
The incident occurred during a period of heightened tourist activity. During the Songkran holidays, Walking Street in Pattaya traditionally recorded high visitor numbers, which required a visible presence of security personnel.
Cases that went viral on social platforms without a corresponding complaint posed practical challenges for law enforcement agencies. Without the cooperation of those involved, the legal scope for action remained limited.
