Two-way traffic returns to Jomtien Beach Road

Pattaya restores normal traffic flow after drainage works

PATTAYA, THAILAND – Two-way traffic on the busy Jomtien Beach Road was set to resume on 22 December 2025 after completion of drainage pipe construction.

Normal traffic pattern restored

The authorities in Pattaya announced that Jomtien Beach Road would again be open to vehicles in both directions from 22 December 2025. During an earlier project to lay new drainage pipes, the route had been restricted to a single lane operating as a one-way system.

With construction finished, traffic was expected to return permanently to its usual pattern. The coastal road served as an important link for local residents, hotels and tourist businesses in the Jomtien area.

Guidance for drivers and visitors

Officials called on all road users to prepare in good time for the change in traffic flow. Residents and tourists were asked to note the date, as driving routes and turning habits would revert to the previous arrangement.

Particular emphasis was placed on road safety. Motorised users of Jomtien Beach Road were expressly urged to drive carefully and follow the applicable rules, with city representatives stressing in substance that responsible driving was vital to prevent accidents after the system change.

Heightened attention after the switch

The responsible authorities pointed out that increased alertness was necessary following such an adjustment. Drivers, motorcyclists and other users of the road should expect unpredictable manoeuvres, especially in the first few days.

They highlighted three key behaviours for the transition period:

“Extra caution when changing lanes, strict compliance with posted traffic regulations, and reduced speed at bottlenecks and intersections.”

said city administration representatives.

Infrastructure upgrade along the beachfront

The city administration underlined that the new drainage pipes were intended to stabilise infrastructure along the popular beach promenade over the long term. With the restoration of two-way traffic, movement along Jomtien Beach Road was expected to become smoother and easier to plan, provided all parties complied with the guidelines.

Relief from detours, but open questions

For many road users, the end of the one-way system meant the end of daily detours. At the same time, the shift raised questions about how well all drivers and visitors were prepared for the new-old traffic pattern and whether heavily used beachfront areas might require new traffic concepts in the longer term.
