Sri Racha, Thailand – A three-year-old boy died after a suspected hit-and-run accident in Sri Racha; rescue workers attempted resuscitation for around 20 minutes, but he later died at Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital.
How the child was found
On May 26 at around 8:30 a.m., the father searched for his son after the boy suddenly disappeared while playing and eventually ran toward Soi Nong Prue-Khao Chi 28. He found the three-year-old lying unresponsive on the roadside and alerted neighbors.
The father works at a nearby construction site; the boy’s older brother, about ten years old, had been playing with him earlier. The mother suffered shock and collapsed.
Rescue workers and resuscitation attempt
Helpers from the Pure Ying Thai Foundation arrived and immediately began resuscitation measures; paramedics performed CPR for around 20 minutes. An ambulance then took the child to Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The boy was a Thai citizen and about three years old. Despite the rapid assistance, his life could not be saved.
Father describes the discovery
The father, Somchai Poonkhunthod, said his son was playing near his workplace and suddenly disappeared. He recounted:
“I didn’t hear any sound of a collision. When I found him, he was conscious for a moment but then became still. I immediately called out to neighbors to call for help.”
The child’s mother is in the fifth to sixth month of pregnancy and collapsed upon hearing the news; neighbors took care of her. The family is in shock over the sudden loss.
Witnesses and video evidence missing
Witnesses report that no one saw the impact directly; apparently no surveillance cameras in the immediate vicinity recorded the collision. This complicates the reconstruction of the incident.
Eyewitness accounts are limited to observations shortly before the boy’s disappearance; investigators have no concrete footage of the accident.
Suspicious red motorbike
Witnesses stated that at the time of the accident, a red motorbike drove into the soi at high speed; police consider this a possible lead for hit-and-run. However, it is not conclusively established whether this vehicle was actually involved in the fatal collision.
The driver’s identity remains unknown; investigators are checking tips and traces in the area to find the motorbike and its driver.
Police and village head on site
Local police from Nong Kham Station inspected the scene together with village head Parivat Chanla and are collecting evidence. Officers and authorities are evaluating witness statements and securing traces along the soi.
Police continue to investigate to identify and arrest the driver.
