Nong Bua Lamphu, Thailand – A 38-year-old man, identified as Pornchai alias “Jack,” allegedly killed his stepdaughter and seriously injured his 32-year-old wife in a house in Nong Kung Kaew sub-district. Police arrested the suspect after a manhunt and conducted a crime reconstruction on May 26 that sparked tensions with residents and relatives.
Killing and serious injuries
The girl was found dead in the residence. Her body was taken to Loei Hospital for an autopsy.The 32-year-old mother also sustained severe injuries and received emergency medical treatment. She was admitted to Udon Thani Hospital.
Search for missing child and discovery of the injured
According to investigators, the girl was last seen publicly at a rocket show on Sunday and was reported missing afterward. Family members then searched for her.On Monday at 12:30 p.m., the owner of a previously rented motorcycle discovered the seriously injured woman in the house and alerted rescue services; police arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed the child’s death.
Manhunt and arrest
The suspect initially fled the scene, prompting a coordinated search. Investigators and local officers pursued leads in the district.On May 25 at 2:10 p.m., officers arrested Pornchai on a connector road in Si Bun Rueang district and brought him to the police station for further questioning.
Weapon and evidence collection
Police seized a machete about 15 inches (approx. 38 cm) long as evidence and documented the crime scene for forensic examination.Traces and evidence continue to be analyzed to clarify the sequence of events.
Drug test and prior convictions
A urine test at the district office confirmed the use of methamphetamine, according to authorities; the suspect stated he had taken one pill on May 23. He was initially also charged with drug offenses and driving under the influence.Investigations also revealed a criminal record: in 2015 he was arrested for methamphetamine possession, and in 2019 a court convicted him of attempted murder and rape.
Crime reconstruction at the scene briefly escalates
On May 26, more than 50 officers escorted the suspect back to the house for a formal reconstruction of his confession. The mood was tense as relatives and residents gathered.According to police, several individuals tried to reach the suspect; officers set up barricades and kept the area under control. A relative, Mrs. Baem (27), confronted the man with a photo of the victim and broke down but was attended to.

The suspect remains in police custody; authorities are considering additional charges related to the homicide and drug offenses.
