Army Prepares for Possible Armed Clashes Along the Border
Bangkok – Tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border are escalating sharply. Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, issued a stark warning on Friday, August 29: should Cambodian troops continue secretly laying landmines on Thai soil, the Thai armed forces reserve the right to return fire.
This announcement carries significant potential for escalation and could permanently undermine the already fragile ceasefire between the two nations. Despite the official truce, Thai soldiers remain on high alert, as the situation in the Second Army Region remains extremely tense. The sovereignty of the Kingdom of Thailand is at stake, and the military leadership is making it unmistakably clear: Thailand will defend its territory by all means necessary.
Evidence of Secret Mine Operations Uncovered
The allegations against Cambodia are serious and substantiated by evidence. General Winthai revealed shocking details of ongoing provocations: despite the ceasefire agreement, Cambodian troops have carried out three separate armed attacks against Thai forces. Even more alarming is the systematic placement of landmines. Cambodia has tried to obscure the facts, claiming the explosives are remnants of past conflicts.
These brazen claims are refuted by clear evidence: the Ministry of Justice has seized over 20 mobile phones from Cambodian soldiers, containing photos and videos of freshly laid mines. These forensic proofs can be presented to international organizations at any time, exposing Cambodia’s dangerous duplicity once and for all.
Drone Threats and Disinformation Escalate Tensions
The threat landscape remains complex and perilous. In addition to the insidious landmine attacks, Cambodian forces have deployed drones as weapons, albeit less frequently. Simultaneously, a massive disinformation campaign is underway, aiming to discredit Thailand internationally. General Winthai emphasized the army’s grave concern over landmine threats, which endanger not only military personnel but also Thai civilians, who live in constant fear of these invisible killers.

However, General Winthai made it clear: “If the lives of our soldiers are at risk, self-defense measures are justified under international law.” Thailand remains committed to the ceasefire but does not rule out defensive action.
Martial Law Imposed in Ban Nong Chan
The situation is further exacerbated by the imposition of martial law in Ban Nong Chan, Sa Kaeo Province. This drastic measure is intended to maintain territorial control and ensure security amid the threat of unrest. Thai authorities aim to regulate access to the area and enforce heightened vigilance, particularly regarding civilians from both countries.
Tensions among local populations could lead to direct clashes, which no one wants, as they could trigger broader regional instability.
