Monsoon storms and flash flood warnings grip Thailand
Thailand is on high alert as fierce monsoon storms sweep across the country, with the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warning of flash floods, rough seas, and travel disruptions over the next 24 hours.
Widespread thundershowers and regional forecasts
The monsoon trough now lies across central and eastern Thailand, while the southwest monsoon dominates the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand. These combined weather systems are bringing unstable conditions nationwide.
Northern provinces like Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Tak will see isolated thundershowers, with temperatures ranging from 22–26°C in the morning and highs of 32–35°C. Light easterly winds are expected.
In the Northeast, scattered thunderstorms will hit Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, and Buriram, with minimum temperatures of 22–25°C and highs up to 34°C. Winds will blow from the east at 10–20 km/h.
Central, eastern, and southern regions face heavy rain
Central Thailand, including Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya, is set for widespread thundershowers and possible isolated heavy rainfall. Morning temperatures will dip to 21–25°C, with daytime highs of 32–34°C.
The East, covering Chon Buri, Rayong, and Trat, will experience widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain. Variable winds of 15–30 km/h are forecast, and sea waves may exceed 2 metres during storms.
Along the east coast of the South, Surat Thani and Songkhla will see scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain. The Gulf of Thailand faces wave heights above 2 metres in stormy conditions.
On the west coast, including Phuket and Ranong, scattered thundershowers are expected, with choppy seas and wave heights over 2 metres during storms.
Bangkok and marine warnings
Bangkok and surrounding areas will face widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain, with temperatures from 24–26°C in the morning and highs of 33–35°C.
The TMD urges all marine vessels in the Gulf and Andaman Sea to proceed with caution and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms, as waves could rise above 2 metres. “Boats should take extra care and stay updated on the latest forecasts,” the TMD advises.
