BANGKOK, THAILAND – A Thai woman known only as “A” has accused her former partner of deceiving her out of more than 30 million baht (around €750,000) during their three-year relationship. Supported by the civil group Sai Mai Survive, she has taken her story public, demanding repayment and urging investigators to trace the source of his apparent fortune.
Promises, investments and financial collapse
Their relationship began online, on Facebook, with pledges of a shared future. According to “A”, her partner persuaded her to invest heavily in what he described as promising ventures — first a coconut-fibre factory, then a pig farm inside Thailand. Each project collapsed, leaving her finances depleted while he seemed to prosper.
As her savings vanished, the man began distancing himself. The turning point came when she discovered that, instead of financial trouble, he had acquired luxury cars and appeared to be leading a lavish lifestyle. The discovery shattered her trust and left her facing personal ruin.
A web of deception and multiple victims
The shock deepened when “A” learnt that she was not alone. She now believes her ex-partner deceived at least ten other women during the same period. The scale of the emotional and financial damage prompted her to confront him directly, eventually reaching a repayment agreement.
Under that deal, the man pledged to transfer 200,000 baht per month (about €5,000). So far, “A” has received 1.7 million baht, plus an additional one million baht recently. Despite these payments, a substantial balance remains outstanding—about 1.35 million baht of the original debt.
Although she has taken her campaign public, “A” insists she is not seeking revenge. She described the relationship as genuine affection that turned unexpectedly devastating.
Calls for investigation into unexplained wealth
The most troubling question, she said, concerns the origins of his newfound prosperity. Once a chicken vendor, her former partner now appears capable of funding a lifestyle far beyond his known means. “A” has asked authorities to scrutinize his finances and determine whether his assets stem from illegal activities.
Ekaphop Luangprasert, a representative of Sai Mai Survive, echoed her concerns. He urged officials from the Technology Crime Suppression Division to open an inquiry.
“THE LEGAL PROCESS FOR ASSET RECOVERY MUST BE USED TO ENSURE ACCOUNTABILITY,”
he said, emphasising that the matter had national implications for consumer and relationship fraud.

The case attracted significant interest in Thailand, where social media often amplifies personal disputes into matters of public awareness. For Sai Mai Survive, which regularly assists victims of scams and cyber fraud, the story highlights the risks of combining emotional trust with unverified financial commitments.

While “A” hopes to recover her funds through legal channels, her ordeal serves as a reminder of how easily private promises can become costly public battles.
