KHON KAEN, THAILAND – A ride-hailing taxi driver was attacked and robbed by her passenger during a fare, later driving herself to the police station despite severe injuries.
The Nightmare on the Backseat
What began as a routine fare on June 1st escalated into a brutal assault. A ride-hailing taxi driver picked up a 19-year-old passenger in the Ban Ped area. The destination was a lodging near Khon Kaen University.
Upon arrival, the young man claimed his mobile banking app was not functioning, preventing him from paying the fare. After several failed attempts to contact someone, he asked the driver to return him to the original pickup point, promising an increased fare for the inconvenience.
Suddenly, He Stabbed Her
Back in Ban Ped, the situation rapidly deteriorated without warning. The passenger suddenly attacked the driver, demanding money. The taxi driver had only a small amount of cash on her and handed over approximately 90 Baht in coins, which was her change for customers.
The assailant took the money and fled. A CCTV camera recorded the entire incident, showing the driver desperately honking her horn and calling for help.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t want to do this. I just want money.”
said the alleged perpetrator.
The woman sustained multiple injuries from the attack. Despite her severe wounds, she managed to get back behind the wheel and drive herself directly to the Ban Ped Police Station.
Drove Herself to the Station
At the police station, officers immediately alerted medical emergency services. They also informed a friend of the driver before she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities later apprehended the 19-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed. The driver used social media to sternly warn other drivers, particularly women, about the safety risks inherent in their profession.
50,000 Baht Per Tooth – And a Farewell Forever
The taxi driver told Channel 3 that she is seeking compensation for her losses but has not yet filed a civil lawsuit. She stated that the cost to replace just one damaged tooth would exceed 50,000 Baht.
This incident has profoundly changed her life. She has decided to never work as a ride-hailing taxi driver again and is completely exiting the business.
