Thai Police Seize 50 Tonnes of Drugs

Massive pre-cursor chemical haul could create 1.1 billion speed pills or 21 tonnes of crystal meth, linking to South Korean intel and a deported drug kingpin.

SAMUT PRAKAN, THAILAND – In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, a major raid on a warehouse in the Phra Pradaeng district has resulted in the seizure of approximately 50 tonnes of chemical precursor substances by police and authorities. These chemicals were reportedly enough to produce 1.1 billion speed pills or 21 tonnes of crystalline methamphetamine. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul personally visited the scene of the discovery, which was reportedly initiated through intelligence from South Korean authorities and the prior extradition of a drug kingpin.

Geheimdienst-Hinweise aus Seoul

This successful operation is a direct result of close collaboration with South Korea’s National Intelligence Service. The South Koreans provided crucial information regarding networks suspected of being connected to the Thai drug kingpin known as “Noo Chen.”

Noo Chen had already been extradited from South Korea to Thailand in April. Acting on the intelligence provided by the spy agency, investigators were able to execute the decisive raid.

Premierminister direkt am Tatort

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul returned from Vietnam on Tuesday evening and proceeded directly to the warehouse located on Suksawat 49 Road. He aimed to personally assess the magnitude of the discovery.

During his visit, the Prime Minister highlighted that the sheer volume and professional organization of the stored materials indicated the scale of the criminal enterprise involved.

Aceton, Salzsäure und Schwefelsäure

Among the seized items, officials collected 9,105 kilograms of acetone, 225 kg of hydrochloric acid, 10,170 kg of acetic acid, 4,500 kg of sulfuric acid, and 26,000 kg of dioctyl phthalate.

The combined weight of these substances amounts to approximately 50 tonnes of chemical precursors, representing a massive find that was immediately secured for further investigation.

1,1 Milliarden Pillen wären möglich

Authorities stated that the confiscated chemicals alone would have been sufficient to produce 1.1 billion speed pills. This figure is reportedly equivalent to the total amount seized nationwide in an entire year.

Alternatively, the precursors could have been used to manufacture 21 tonnes of crystalline methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice.” The intended destination for this smuggled contraband was believed to be the Golden Triangle.

Zehn Razzien, drei Firmen

The seized substances were not confined to a single storage location. In total, law enforcement units searched ten different sites and traced the chemicals back to three separate companies.

These companies are now at the core of the ongoing investigation and face potentially severe legal penalties.

Drogenboss Noo Chen im April ausgeliefert

The alleged mastermind, identified as “Noo Chen,” had been a known figure to Thai authorities for some time. His extradition from South Korea in April significantly accelerated the progress of the covert investigation.

His alleged connections within the Golden Triangle are considered pivotal to unraveling the complex supply chains involved.

Riesige Menge auf einen Streich

The discovery of 50 tonnes of precursor chemicals underscores the vast quantities that have evidently been moved undetected over several years. Officials are hailing this as one of the most significant blows against the drug scene this year.

The discrepancy between the total quantity and the individually listed substances is noted as unusual and is currently under scrutiny by the authorities.
