BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thai police carried out a sweeping pre-dawn operation that struck drug networks at 3,001 locations across the country.
Nationwide raids launched at dawn
At exactly 06:00 on 12 December, security forces launched a coordinated nationwide offensive that had been prepared as a major crackdown. Police units in all 77 provinces simultaneously raided homes, warehouses and meeting places used by drug traffickers. The stated objective was clear:
“Dismantle the distribution networks and disrupt the routes.”
said the official announcement, ROLE.
Thousands of suspects targeted
At a national press conference, Police General Samran Nualma, director of the Drug Suppression Center, presented the interim results of the operation. A total of 2,498 suspects were arrested, including 131 people who were already subject to outstanding arrest warrants. The campaign had focused on exactly 627 identified drug networks operating at both local and national levels.
Large hauls of drugs, weapons and cash
The seized quantities illustrated the scale of the illegal trade. Officers confiscated 464,371 methamphetamine tablets and 12.973 kilograms of crystal meth, along with ketamine, heroin and more than 1,000 ecstasy pills. They also seized 90 firearms and 260,529 baht in cash, while the largest financial blow came from frozen assets worth over 42.7 million baht.
Zero-tolerance policy from authorities
According to officials, the raids followed direct instructions from the government and the national police leadership. The strategy was described as two-pronged:
“Reduce supply and demand equally.”
said the authorities, ROLE. The focus lay on heavily affected communities, and the operation was described as one of the most extensive simultaneous anti-drug actions in the country’s history.
Police stress long-term fight against organised crime
A police spokesperson underlined that the crackdown was intended as more than a one-off show of force.
“This is a sustainable and serious measure against organised crimes.”
said a police spokesperson, ROLE. Officials stressed that the nationwide raids sent a clear message to the masterminds behind the drug cartels that Thailand was no longer safe ground for their trade.
Public urged to support ongoing operations
Despite the scale of the success, the Royal Thai Police said the struggle against drug trafficking was far from over. The force called on the population to actively support further efforts and to report information on drug crime at any time via the emergency number 191 or at any police station.

Officials framed the day as a historic moment for public safety, with thousands of dealers now behind bars and their weapons and capital neutralised. The extensive seizures and arrests were portrayed as a strong signal to drug gangs operating in and around Thailand. At the same time, questions remained over whether this large-scale action would mark a turning point or merely the latest wave in a long-running struggle against a constantly regenerating system.
