BANGKOK, THAILAND – An old wedding photograph placed prominent Thai politician Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan under pressure after the groom’s assets were seized over alleged links to international scam networks.
Old wedding photo sparks political controversy
The image, taken about seven to eight years earlier, showed Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, leader of the Thai Sang Thai (TST) party, dressed in ceremonial attire. She stood beside Cambodian businessman Yim Leak and his Thai wife Visnie, for whose ceremony she acted as wedding master of ceremonies. The photo resurfaced after Thai authorities seized Yim’s assets on 3 December 2025 on suspicion of connections to international scam operations.
Sudarat responds publicly on Facebook
Facing mounting questions, Sudarat reacted quickly on her official Facebook channel and stressed that she did not have a close relationship with the couple.
“I was invited by the bride’s parents to preside over the ceremony,”
said Sudarat, party leader. She stated that she had met the couple only twice, once before the wedding and once on the wedding day.
No contact since wedding, says party leader
According to her statement, she had no contact with Yim Leak or his wife after the ceremony and described the connection as purely ceremonial and personal. She emphasized that it was a social custom to accept such invitations. Her swift and open response was aimed at limiting potential damage to her party and her own standing.
What the politician knew about the groom
In her explanation, Sudarat detailed what she had been told about the groom, saying the information came from the bride’s parents. On the wedding day she learned that he was Cambodian, worked for the government, and was the son of an influential politician. She said she had not been informed at the time about any business activities or later allegations.

The controversy emerged at a moment when Thailand’s political scene was in flux, making any link to alleged criminals especially sensitive. The opposition was expected to use the photo to challenge the integrity and judgment of the TST leader. Whether Sudarat’s prompt explanation would be enough to neutralize the issue remained unclear.
