Michelin Adds 13 New Bib Gourmand Spots

137 affordable restaurants across Thailand made the 2026 Bib Gourmand list

BANGKOK, THAILAND – The MICHELIN Guide released its 2026 Bib Gourmand selection for Thailand, honoring 137 restaurants for high quality at moderate prices.

Nationwide recognition for affordable excellence

The Bib Gourmand distinction covered the entire country and showcased a wide variety of cuisines. In Bangkok and neighboring provinces, 44 venues were listed, including four newcomers. Chiang Mai saw 18 recognized addresses, while the Isan region stood out with 28 establishments, especially in Nakhon Ratchasima, and quality-focused options also appeared on Phuket and in Phang-Nga.

Thirteen newcomers join the guide

Among the 13 new entries, several were highlighted as particular finds. In Bangkok, “Jaan by Khun Jim” earned praise for its authentic southern Thai and Thai-Chinese cooking. Also in the capital, “Kolun.h” was noted for intensely flavorful Hainanese rice noodles and crispy pork belly, while in Chiang Mai, “CHAWEE” focused on emotional, home-style dishes inspired by childhood recipes and seasonal ingredients.

What the Bib Gourmand label stands for

The Bib Gourmand distinction signified outstanding quality at a reasonable price. In Thailand, this meant that a three-course meal had to cost under 1,000 baht (around 25 euros).

“This selection confirms Thailand as an exceptional travel destination for unforgettable and affordable culinary experiences.”

said the official explanation of the Guide. The label was presented as an award for diners seeking top-level cuisine away from expensive starred restaurants.

Shift toward creative casual dining

A clear trend emerged as more chef-led, casual restaurants entered the selection. The text emphasized that the era when only formal temples of haute cuisine were honored was over. Creativity, authentic flavors and strong value for money were now decisive, and the Guide was described as reflecting the pulse of Thailand’s vibrant food scene, with restaurateurs celebrating the decision as a victory of passion over pure luxury.

Impact on Thailand’s restaurant scene

For the 137 listed venues, the Bib Gourmand recognition was portrayed as a major career boost, expected to sharply increase guest numbers and international visibility. For both tourists and locals, the Guide was framed as an ultimate recommendation, suggesting diners could confidently visit any listed restaurant and leave impressed. Thailand thus further consolidated its reputation as one of the most exciting and accessible culinary destinations in the world, without frills but with plenty of heart and flavor.
