Bangkok man’s suicide follows renewed probe into ex-girlfriend’s death
A Bangkok man, accused of involvement in the death of his ex-girlfriend, has died by suicide just days after her remains were found, reigniting questions about the 12-year-old case.
Skeleton discovery ends years of searching
Phawinee “Kae” Kortaisong vanished in 2013 after moving to Chon Buri for work. Her family, desperate for answers, finally located her skeleton in Lat Krabang, Bangkok, with help from the Mirror Foundation.
Kae’s disappearance began after she asked a friend to drop her by a motorway, saying someone would pick her up. She was never seen again. Her parents, devastated, spent years searching for clues.
Ex-boyfriend questioned, denies involvement
Police identified Kae’s ex-boyfriend, Praphan, as the main suspect. Officers from Chorakhe Noi Police Station summoned him for hours of questioning. He repeatedly denied any involvement.
Despite his denials, police continued to investigate. “He told me he was innocent,” Praphan’s wife told reporters, adding that he struggled with the pressure but kept his feelings hidden.
Family claims police pressure led to tragedy
On October 8, Praphan’s family reported his death. Security footage showed him leaving home on his motorcycle after a normal morning. His body was found in a paddy field, with a gunshot wound.
His father insisted, “My son was innocent. He was hiring a lawyer.” He accused police of applying excessive pressure, saying it pushed Praphan to breaking point.
Calls for answers as case remains unresolved
Kae’s parents continue to seek justice, urging police to fully investigate the circumstances of her death. The tragic turn has left two families grieving and a community searching for answers.
