SRI RACHA, THAILAND – A 17-year-old motorcyclist suddenly cut across three lanes near a weekend market, triggering a violent collision that left two men injured, one of them in critical condition, as police collected CCTV footage and physical evidence.
Afternoon crash near busy weekend market
The collision occurred on 14 March at around 4:05 p.m. in Sri Racha in Chonburi province, close to a weekend market. Rescue workers from the Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Foundation reported two injured riders, including one man who was in critical condition.
At the scene, two overturned motorcycles were found on the roadway, a red-and-black Honda Scoopy i and a dark blue Honda MSX. Both vehicles showed extensive front-end damage consistent with a high-impact collision.
Investigators reconstruct the sequence of events
According to the initial reconstruction by rescue personnel and police, student Phongphan (17) rode out from a side soi next to the market and crossed the road over three traffic lanes to reach the opposite side. Kittipong Thongra-or (41) was travelling straight on the main road and was unable to brake in time, striking the crossing motorcycle from the side.
The force of the impact threw the 41-year-old from his bike, causing him to slam onto the asphalt. He suffered, among other injuries, a head laceration and briefly lost consciousness before regaining it, but he remained restless, with multiple abrasions and severe pain reported across his body.
On-site emergency care and hospital transport
Volunteer responders and an emergency team from the “Lanthem” Advanced Life Support ambulance of Somdet Phra Borom Ratchathewi Na Si Racha Hospital administered first aid at the scene. Both injured men were then rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
Authorities did not immediately release additional medical updates, pending ongoing assessment by hospital staff. Police indicated that formal questioning would take place once the riders were medically fit to provide statements.
CCTV captures moments before impact
CCTV footage reviewed by authorities showed the 17-year-old pulling out from the soi while several motorcycles approached in the straight-ahead lane. The crossing motorcycle moved directly into the path of the 41-year-old, leaving, according to investigators, almost no time to evade.
Police from the Sri Racha Police station documented the crash scene, photographed the wrecked motorcycles and secured evidence. Formal interviews and potential legal proceedings were expected to follow once both men were able to testify.
