MUKDAHAN, THAILAND – Border police seized around four million speed pills in a rental house in Mukdahan and arrested three suspects, in what the Royal Thai Police viewed as part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking in the border area.
Raid on Friday afternoon
The operation took place at a rented two-storey house on Damrongmukda Road in Muang district. According to Pol Maj Gen Wutthipong Yenjit, commander of Border Patrol Police Region 2, the men behaved suspiciously when officers approached them. They allegedly tried to flee but were immediately detained.
Four million pills on the upper floor
During a search of the building, officers found seven sacks of speed pills on the upper floor, containing a total of about 4,000,000 tablets. Police said the suspects admitted the drugs belonged to them and had been hidden in the house. The haul was secured as evidence at the scene.
Vehicles and phones seized as evidence
Investigators also confiscated three vehicles, including two Isuzu pick-ups and a Toyota Fortuner. In addition, three mobile phones were seized for examination. Police planned to analyse the devices as potential traces of communication and logistics.
Trail leads to Nakhon Phanom
In initial questioning, the men stated they had collected the consignment from a border area between That Phanom and Muang districts in neighbouring Nakhon Phanom province. From there, the drugs were transported to Mukdahan and stored in the rental house for about a month. Another team was reportedly supposed to take over and move the shipment on to other provinces.
Suspects and alleged payment
The arrested men were identified as Samanya Raksanit, Rasthawit Thangsungnoen and Prapruek Chantri. One of them told police he had helped with the transports and received 40,000 baht per trip. The payments were described as compensation for his role in moving the narcotics.
Serious charges and expanded manhunt
All three faced charges of possessing Category 1 narcotics with intent to sell, an offence authorities classified as a significant threat to public safety and national security. The suspects and seized items were handed over to investigators at Muang Mukdahan police station. The search for additional accomplices and alleged masterminds was being expanded.

The seizure underscored how central the northeast had become as a transit and storage zone for synthetic drugs. It also highlighted how criminal logistics relied on rental properties and rapid vehicle changes. The case raised questions over whether authorities should put more emphasis on landlord checks, digital analysis of communication data or a more visible border presence, and whether such steps risked excessive collateral damage for ordinary residents and travellers.
