Pattaya Seizes Beach Mats in License Crackdown

City officials targeted unlicensed rentals on Pattaya Beach and removed equipment from public areas

PATTAYA, THAILAND – City authorities carried out inspections on 11 February against unauthorized rentals of mats and beach chairs on Pattaya Beach, seizing equipment to stop the illegal use of public space.

Expanded inspections along busy beachfront

Municipal enforcement teams in Pattaya widened their patrols along the heavily visited Pattaya Beach to act against unlicensed rentals of mats and beach chairs to tourists. According to the city, the operation specifically targeted providers who had repeatedly occupied sections of the public beach without permission.

Alleged unlawful occupation of public areas

Officers identified several operators who had set up mats and loungers directly on public beach areas even though they had no authorization to do so. City officials stated that this conduct amounted to the unauthorized occupation of public space and the sale of services without a license, in violation of municipal regulations.

Equipment seized and stored for legal process

During the operation, municipal law enforcement seized all mats and chairs found on the beach and removed them immediately from the shoreline. The confiscated equipment was taken to the Pattaya Municipal Enforcement Center, where it was to be stored until further legal steps were completed and any potential fines were imposed.

Call for respect, fairness and clean beaches

Authorities underlined that Pattaya Beach was a shared public space and urged both vendors and visitors to comply with existing rules to ensure fair and orderly access for everyone.

“Pattaya Beach is a jointly used public area, and all users should respect the regulations so that access remains fair and orderly for everyone.”

said city representatives, according to the municipal account. They also appealed for public support so that the beach could remain a clean, open and welcoming place for residents and holidaymakers, and so that future violations would be reported at an early stage.

Debate over impact on local operators

The measures sparked questions over the balance between protecting public space and the impact on small vendors operating at the beach.

“The city is seizing loungers and mats to protect public space and improve order, but stricter controls often also affect local operators.”

said commentators in the local debate, reflecting concerns about possible hardship despite the aim of greater fairness.
