In the early hours of October 8, Pattaya police receive a frantic report from “Mr. Bird,” whose sister Ms. Pimnipa sends him a secret message with her hotel location. Acting immediately, officers assemble a special team, identify the luxury hotel in Jomtien, and pinpoint the exact room.
The rescue is swift. Police storm the room and find Ms. Pimnipa, visibly shaken but alive, guarded by a Chinese man who is arrested on the spot. He refuses to speak to investigators.
Facebook job scam turns into nightmare
Ms. Pimnipa reveals she was lured by a Facebook group offering “money exchange accounts.” Struggling to pay her rent, she contacts the group, hoping for quick cash.
Instead, she is picked up at South Pattaya’s Walking Street and driven around the city before being locked in the hotel. The gang, made up of six to seven Chinese nationals, confiscates her phone and bank card, forcing her to withdraw money and hand over her banking details.
Threats, extortion, and a daring escape
The situation escalates when the gang accuses her of causing a 200,000 Baht loss and threatens her with violence unless she confesses. She is tied up and held against her will.
In a moment of quick thinking, Ms. Pimnipa convinces the gang to return her phone, claiming she needs to contact a friend to open more accounts. Instead, she secretly sends her location to her brother, setting her rescue in motion.
