PATTAYA, Thailand – A fierce blaze ripped through a two-story house Tuesday afternoon, leaving it nearly destroyed. An elderly woman narrowly escaped the inferno thanks to the quick thinking of her neighbors.

Frau Thongjuea Boey Asa was alone in her home on June 23 when she heard a loud bang from the second floor around noon. As she investigated the source, neighbors on the street began shouting warnings about smoke rising from the roof. Within seconds, the upper floor was engulfed in flames. The 74-year-old immediately fled outside. Without the neighbors’ alarm, she likely would not have escaped in time.

Visibly shaken and trembling, the senior citizen expressed her gratitude after her rescue. She told reporters she didn’t know what would have happened without the neighbors’ calls for help. A massive plume of black smoke, visible from afar, marked the fire’s location near the Laem Bali Hai overpass. Firefighters worked for approximately 30 minutes to bring the flames under control.
