PATTAYA, THAILAND – Three people were injured when a motorcycle skidded on an oil spill near Laem Bali Hai Pier at night, reigniting criticism of a long-standing accident hotspot with little sign of safety improvements.
Nighttime crash near Laem Bali Hai Pier
According to the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Center, the accident occurred at around 2.40 a.m., when the control center received an emergency call reporting a motorcycle fall with injuries near the pier. Rescue workers were immediately dispatched to the scene to treat the injured and secure the area.
Three people injured on one motorcycle
At the site, responders found a blue Honda Scoopy i motorcycle with a Rayong license plate lying on the roadway with visible damage. Nearby were three injured people, two women and a trans woman, who had suffered bruises and abrasions across their bodies and were taken to a nearby hospital after initial treatment.
Oil spill blamed for loss of control
The injured riders said all three had been traveling on the same motorcycle and had slowed before a bend near the pier to keep the vehicle under control. At that moment, the wheels hit a smooth oil spill, the motorcycle lost grip, began to swerve and tipped over, throwing all three to the ground.
Residents describe long-standing danger spot
Local residents and people affected reported that the stretch of road near Laem Bali Hai Pier had long been considered an accident hotspot, particularly because oil spills kept appearing on the asphalt. According to their accounts, motorcycle falls with injuries occurred there frequently, without responsible authorities implementing effective measures such as regular road cleaning, warning signs or traffic engineering improvements.
Calls for urgent action from authorities
From the neighborhood came demands that the relevant agencies urgently assess and reduce the danger at the site before more serious collisions occur. Several residents warned that, without concrete countermeasures at the hazardous spot, fatal accidents could happen in the future, while the responsible authorities had so far not announced any immediate steps to defuse the situation.
