PATTAYA, THAILAND – A dispute between neighboring women in Pattaya ended in a serious knife attack after jealousy, insults and a simmering conflict escalated.
Stabbing in row of rented rooms
The incident took place on Saturday, 23 November, shortly before 6:15 p.m. in a row of rented rooms in Soi Chularat in urban Pattaya, Chonburi province. The 45-year-old day laborer Ms Thongsuk (pseudonym) suffered a stab wound about 10 centimeters long below the left ribcage. She had been struck once in the upper body with a folding knife about 15 centimeters long.
Suspect waited with packed bag
When police arrived at the scene, officers found the alleged attacker, Ms Kung (pseudonym), 35, who described herself as the partner of the neighboring tenant, waiting calmly. She said she wanted to surrender and voluntarily led investigators to the folded knife, which she identified as the weapon. Before police arrived, she had already packed a small bag with clothing.
Jealousy and insults as background
According to Ms Kung, the conflict began the previous day, 22 November. Her partner Ms Som (pseudonym), 38, a relative of the injured woman and resident of the adjacent room, allegedly accused her of having an intimate relationship with Ms Thongsuk. In the ensuing argument, Ms Som reportedly beat her severely. During the incident, the later victim allegedly shouted an obscene remark over the room wall, according to Ms Kung’s statement to police.
Evening dispute turns violent
On Saturday evening, Ms Kung said she returned to the area of the rooms, assuming the neighbor was not at home, in order to discuss repair of a damaged window. Instead, she reported hearing loud, obscene insults from Ms Thongsuk. She shouted back,
“Are you still not finished?”
said Ms Kung, alleged attacker. The exchange of words escalated into a heated argument.
Partner admits role in escalation
Partner Ms Som told police in tears that intense jealousy on her part had triggered the entire chain of events. She confirmed that she had physically attacked Ms Kung the previous day after believing the provocative comments made by the injured woman. Officers took Ms Kung into custody and brought her to Pattaya City Police Station. Allegations of causing serious bodily harm were being considered against her.
