Thai ‘Naga Medium’ accused of massive spiritual scam
A self-proclaimed ‘Naga Medium’ in Thailand stands accused of defrauding 20 believers out of more than 20 million Baht, sparking a high-profile police investigation.
Victims unite to expose alleged spiritual fraud
On Tuesday, lawyer Ronnarong Kaewpetch, head of the Foundation for Justice in Society, led 20 victims to the Central Investigation Bureau. They filed complaints against a woman known online as the ‘Divine Consort of Indra’, ‘Phet Phatthara Naga’, or ‘Ajarn Min’.
According to the allegations, the woman convinced followers to buy expensive talismans and rituals, promising luck and wealth. Many victims paid in instalments, some despite being in debt.
One victim, 46-year-old dentist ‘Khun Tee’, described how ‘Ajarn Min’ claimed to channel a divine Naga spirit and demanded tens of thousands of Baht for amulets “personally chosen by celestial beings.” In reality, the items were cheaply made and sold at exorbitant prices.
When suspicions arose, ‘Ajarn Min’ reportedly cut off contact and refused refunds.
Police probe 18 bank accounts in suspected money laundering
Lawyer Ronnarong warns, “These actions may constitute public fraud and violate the Computer Crime Act and Consumer Protection Act.” Victims submitted bank transfer slips, chat logs, promotional videos, and advertising materials as evidence.
Investigators are now tracing transactions across 18 suspicious bank accounts. Authorities suspect large-scale money laundering.
Celebrity photos misused to boost credibility
Another victim revealed she was lured in via a Buddhist teaching page. Investigations show that donation funds were misused and celebrity photos were used without consent to build trust.
The accused allegedly created a network of trust to target unsuspecting believers, weaving elaborate spiritual lies to extract money.
Investigation intensifies as more victims possible
If the allegations are confirmed, the so-called Naga priestess could face several years in prison. The 20 million Baht in losses may be just the beginning, with more victims possibly yet to come.
