PATTAYA, THAILAND – Police in Banglamung arrested two Myanmar nationals just hours after a gold necklace robbery and seized extensive evidence linked to the crime.
Robbery in Banglamung home captured on CCTV
The robbery took place on 10 December 2025 in the Banglamung district in the greater Pattaya area. Two alleged offenders reportedly visited a compatriot’s house under the pretext of viewing a room for rent. Inside the home, one man suddenly grabbed a gold necklace weighing 3 baht from the neck of the homeowner’s mother, whose son is Myanmar national Mying Aung, before both suspects fled on a white Honda Lead motorbike without a license plate; the entire incident was clearly recorded by CCTV cameras.
Investigators track motorbike and clothing
Under the direction of Pol Col Sarawut Nuchanart, superintendent of the Banglamung Police Station, investigators worked the case in shifts. Officers determined that after the crime, the suspects fitted the motorbike with a fake red temporary license plate (ขข-4002 Pattaya) and changed their clothing to evade identification. A trail eventually led police to a rented room in Soi Thung Klom-Tan Man 27 in Nong Prue subdistrict, where the sought-after motorbike was found parked in front of Room 3; inside, officers encountered a man and a woman from Myanmar who, according to police, immediately became nervous and tried to escape.
Suspects confess after seeing video evidence
The suspects were identified as Mr Maw Aung (27) and Ms Ma Su (30). After being shown the surveillance footage, both admitted to the robbery and led investigators to the clothing and other items used during the crime. Seized evidence included the white Honda Lead bearing the fake red plate ขข-4002 Pattaya, a dark blue collared polo shirt allegedly worn during the robbery, a gold ring weighing 1 salung, a pair of dolphin earrings (½ salung) in gold, a pair of star-shaped gold earrings, and two purchase receipts from a Yeowarat Gold Shop.
Necklace sold for 167,000 baht
According to police, the accused stated they had sold the 3‑baht gold necklace for 167,000 baht. Part of the proceeds was reportedly used to buy the now-confiscated gold jewellery items. As their motive, they said they were unemployed and needed money to support their four children.
Expired passports and charges for illegal stay
During the investigation, officers discovered that the passports of both suspects had expired, rendering their stay in Thailand illegal. Police said the pair now faced two main charges: joint robbery by snatching, using a vehicle to commit the crime or facilitate escape, and staying in the country without valid permission. The two detainees and all seized evidence were handed over to Banglamung police investigators for further legal proceedings, with police circles stating:
“The investigation will now continue within the framework of the applicable laws.”
