NONTHABURI, THAILAND – A man has been brought before the court on charges of aggravated assault and rape of his girlfriend, with the Nonthaburi Provincial Court ordering his detention and rejecting a bail application. Investigators sought pretrial detention due to concerns about the risk of reoffending and witness tampering. The accused denies the allegations, while the 36-year-old female victim received medical treatment and filed a complaint.
Allegations of Crime According to Police
Investigators stated that Samrit Rimthuean, also known as Suea Dusit, physically attacked the 36-year-old woman, Mira, in the early morning hours of May 31. According to the report, he allegedly used force to compel the woman into a sexual act.
Law enforcement officials classify the actions as assault and rape involving violence because the woman was reportedly unable to defend herself. The case is therefore being prosecuted, and an arrest warrant was requested.
Escape of the Victim and Mother’s Complaint
The woman reportedly fled to her mother after the incident and subsequently sought medical assistance. Her mother later filed the complaint because the victim was initially unable to appear in person. After the woman received treatment at the hospital, she provided a statement to the investigating authority.
The presentation of injuries and the complaint led to the initiation of investigations and the request for an arrest warrant from the Nonthaburi Provincial Court. Investigators then apprehended the accused on June 5 and handed him over to the public prosecutor.
Arrest, Custody, and Bail Review
The arrest occurred on June 5. The accused was reportedly held for an initial 48 hours at the Bang Kruai police station. On June 6, investigators brought him before the Nonthaburi Provincial Court for a bail review.
The court ordered pretrial detention and denied an application for provisional release. The accused submitted a bail request during the proceedings, which the court ultimately did not grant.
Reasons for Bail Rejection
Investigators had opposed provisional release, citing the risk of evidence manipulation or witness tampering if the suspect were to be freed. Additionally, the prosecution argued that the accused had been involved in a similar case previously.
The court cited the severity of the allegations, the risk of recidivism, and the potential for witness influence as reasons for denying bail. The victim also opposed release, stating she feared further danger due to threats and the fact that the accused knew her address.
Investigation Status: Witnesses and Deadlines
Investigations are ongoing. According to the authority, six more witnesses need to be interviewed. For this reason, the public prosecutor requested 12 days of pretrial detention, from June 6 to June 17, 2026, to facilitate evidence gathering.
The accused denies the allegations. However, the police deem his custody necessary while witness testimonies and evidence are collected. The further examination of the accusations falls to the investigators.
Transfer to Prison and Next Steps
Following the court’s decision, Samrit Rimthuean was transferred to a prison to begin his ordered pretrial detention. Authorities are continuing to pursue the case and conduct the outstanding interviews.
The investigations and the questioning of the remaining witnesses are intended to determine whether charges will be filed. Until then, the accused will remain in custody.
