UBON RATCHATHANI, THAILAND – A drunk man attempted to abduct a seven-year-old child in a residential park on Tuesday evening, offering them 20 Baht for inappropriate acts, before neighbors intervened.
With 20 Baht, he wanted to buy innocence
A 45-year-old man approached a seven-year-old child around 6 p.m. on June 21 in a park located in the Khamsai subdistrict. According to the police, the man offered the child 20 Baht. When the child refused and began to scream, he grabbed them and attempted to forcibly drag them to a more secluded area.
Screams alerted the entire neighborhood
The child’s desperate resistance proved to be the man’s undoing. An attentive resident heard the cries for help, rushed towards the noise, and discovered the man with the girl in a compromising situation. More neighbors quickly arrived and together they managed to overpower the intoxicated attacker. They detained him and immediately alerted the police via the emergency number 191.
Suspect confesses to the awful deed
Upon the arrival of the officers, the alleged perpetrator was heavily intoxicated. During questioning, he was surprisingly open and provided a comprehensive confession to the police. The seven-year-old victim showed brave resistance, yet the 45-year-old now faces serious charges.
An investigation revealed that the man is a known figure in his neighborhood, recognized by residents as a habitual drinker who frequently causes trouble. Police records confirm the 45-year-old has been previously documented for drunkenness and disturbing the peace multiple times. At the time of the incident, he was massively under the influence of alcohol.
Charged with attempted rape
The officers arrested the man at the scene and took him to the police station for questioning. He has been officially charged. The case has been handed over to the responsible investigator, Deputy Investigator R.T.T.Y. Kulwarin Chutisirikusak, for further prosecution.
