PHUKET, THAILAND – A luxury car crashed into a convenience store in Phuket around midnight on 28 January, causing visible damage but no injuries.
Late-night crash in Ban Ku Ku area
A luxury BMW crashed into a convenience store front in the Ban Ku Ku area of Phuket late on 27 January 2026, shortly before the date rolled over to the 28th, according to city police. Residents alerted officers after the vehicle slammed into the shop on Ratsada Anusorn Road in Tambon Ratsada, Mueang Phuket District. The branch involved was store number 23020 in Soi Weera Uthit.
BMW lodged halfway inside store
Traffic and patrol officers arrived within minutes of the emergency call. They found a bronze-grey BMW with Bangkok licence plate Sor Nor 982 lodged about halfway inside the sales area, its rear lights still on. The glass front was completely shattered and shelves near the entrance were damaged, but police said customers and staff inside the store at the time were not hurt.
Driver cites mix-up between pedals
The driver told officers he had only intended to stop briefly to buy something at the shop. He said a critical mistake occurred when he pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.
“I accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake,”
said the driver, according to investigators. As a result of this error, the BMW suddenly surged forward and smashed through the glass frontage, police said, who then arranged for a tow truck to remove the vehicle and document the damage.
Concrete barrier limits damage
Police said a concrete barrier had already been installed in front of the entrance, similar to those used widely in front of small shops to protect against rolling vehicles. This barrier significantly slowed the car and prevented more serious destruction inside the store. Officers stressed that without the structure, the vehicle would likely have entered the sales area completely and the damage could have been far worse, according to police sources.
Police continue investigation
Phuket City Police continued to investigate the circumstances of the crash. The work included formal accident recording, checking the driver’s qualifications and assessing any possible traffic or duty-of-care violations. Once the investigation is complete, authorities planned to forward their findings to the responsible agencies to clarify the exact course of events and consider any potential civil or criminal consequences.
